Business Grants for Disability Access

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, through its Business Grants for Disability Access Program aims to support local small businesses in Port Adelaide Enfield region to improve access to their building by people who have a disability, while encouraging new economic activity.

Timeframes

Open all year and assessed and decided as they are received with an approximate turnaround time of 21 days.

What Funding options are there?

Depending on demand for assistance and funds available in the respective financial year, a maximum of 50% of the cost of the works up to a total subsidy of $5,000 may be approved. The total funding pool adopted by Council for the Business Grants for Disability Access in the 2018/19 financial year is $30,000

Eligibility & Assessment criteria

Council’s Disability Access Grants provides assistance to small businesses that lease or own a business premise to improve access to, and movement around the business site for people with a disability. Only profit making organisations including commercial entities, businesses and sole traders within the Port Adelaide Enfield Council area are eligible. Please see our guidelines for ineligible applications.

Assessment

1.

Owner or have the permission of the building owner to make changes.

2.

Development Assessment approvals for the work or are applying for any necessary approvals under the Development Act.

3.

Necessary finances to undertake the approved works.

4.

The project will ensure improved access to the business site and/or services for people with a disability.

5.

Any building works will be considerate of existing heritage aspects of the buildings.

How to apply

We provide an online application tool to help you prepare and submit your application. It's called SmartyGrants and it's available via the Apply Now button below. If you're a new user, you will need to start by registering a new account. Once registered and logged in you will be redirected to the "Before you Begin" page where you can start your application.

Applicants can only apply online when funding rounds are open. Support or access to computers and the internet can be provided if required.

  • Internal and external disability signage
  • Accessible toilets
  • Accessible shop counters
  • Modifications to doorways
  • Equipment and/or fittings to assist audio or visually impaired people
  • General modifications/improvements designed to improve access for people with a disability
