Semaphore resident Amy French and her family aim to live as close to a zero waste lifestyle as they can. Inspired by the ABC’s War on Waste, Amy started to take recycling seriously. She writes for her blog
The Good Life with Amy French
, which offers people tips and advice on being eco-friendly.
Amy recently joined a City of PAE
KESAB environmental solutions
‘Beyond The Kerb’ waste tour, and was taken behind the scenes to see what happens to the waste from each of our three bins. With more than a passing interest in rubbish, Amy is interested in what happens with electronic waste.
“When you think about it, you use soft plastics once then they sit around for the next 500 years. It is so normal in the modern world that people often don’t think about the wider implications of their shopping habits.”
Amy is also passionate about encouraging people to be more environmentally conscious in their waste and to consider what they are buying in the first instance, rather than having to think about how they dispose of the waste later.
“Try it for a month and see how much plastic you use. Some things are harder than others to change but everybody can do something.”
