We are almost set up and ready to go for the
Santos Tour Down Under
stage 1 race finish around 2:25pm today!
286 locally designed and made flags are now up and lining the streets, plus we have this very special one (held up by Otto Jarman who helped create it) which will be presented to the winner of today's race.
366 people aged between 4 and 70 worked with award-winning Port Adelaide Artists Bob Daly and Kalyna Micenko on the project.
- Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School
- Alberton Primary School
- Port Adelaide Artists Forum
- Port Adelaide Shellfish Group
- Port Adelaide Residents Environment Protection Group
Most of the schools’ flag designs were drawn by junior primary aged students, responding to the theme of ‘Port River Life’. Primary aged students enlarged, cut and pinned the junior primary students’ designs.
Interested community members also drew cut and pinned some of the flag designs.
The appliqué flags were sewn and assembled at Bob and Kalyna’s
studio in Port Adelaide. Each flag took a total of 7 hours to create.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield funded the ‘Port River Life” TDU community flags as a placemaking activation project.
