The Hart Street stormwater pump station is located on the western side of the Port River on Causeway Road, Ethelton adjacent the Jervois Bridge.
The drainage catchment is a low lying area and includes the suburbs of Ethelton, and parts of Glanville, Exeter, Semaphore and Semaphore South.
The original pump station was constructed in the mid 1960’s.
A Hydrological Study undertaken in 2000 and Stormwater Master Plan completed in 2003 investigated a number of options and identified the preferred scheme to reduce the instances of flooding within the catchment as:
Staged construction works commenced in 2004 with joint funding from Council and the State’ Government’s Stormwater Management Authority.
The new main drain along Hart Street, a new rising main under Causeway Road and the adjacent railway line to the Port River, a new pump pit, pumps, gross pollutant trap, and a new building to house the control equipment and backup generator have been completed. Upgrade works for the lateral drains will continue for several more years.
