Community Grants

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, through its Community Grant Program aims to support not-for-profit community groups and organisations with projects that help local communities thrive by building community wellbeing, cohesion and capacity for PAE residents.

Timeframes

Applications can be submitted when funding rounds are open. There will be two assessment periods per year during April and October.

The Community Grants are now closed.  The program will reopen in July 2024.

We strongly encourage you to talk to us about your project so we can work together and provide support before your application is submitted. Please contact our Community Grants Officer on 8405 6600 or email grants@cityofpae.sa.gov.au.  

How much can you apply for?

Eligible applicants can apply for up to $7,500 for initiatives, activities or opportunities that support the program priorities.

Eligibility & Assessment criteria

Eligible applicants need to be a not-for-profit organisation, incorporate group or legal entity with comparable status, or a social enterprise.  Eligible applicants must align with the grant program priorities.  Applicants who have received funding in the previous 12 months are unlikely to receive funding.Community grant assessment criteria

How to apply

We provide an online application tool to help you prepare and submit your application. It's called SmartyGrants and it's available via the Apply Now button below. If you're a new user, you will need to start by registering a new account. Once registered and logged in you will be redirected to the "Before you Begin" page where you can start your application.

Applicants can only apply online when funding rounds are open. Support or access to computers and the internet can be provided if required.

This is not a capital works or equipment grant program.

Please apply for an Equipment Grant if you are requesting funding solely for capital works or equipment.

Success Stories

One Culture Football was approved $7,500 to support the continuation of their successful community engagement project within the Blair Athol region.

The Port Church Incorporated was approved $7,500 for seed funding to support the establishment of a community cafe. This project will foster community connectedness in a free and supportive environment.

Port Adelaide Uniting Church was approved $7,500 to support Bent Pine Community Garden Mural. This project will create community awareness of the Bent Pine Community Garden.

Tutti Arts Inc. was approved $2,910 to support Tutti at the Port in 2018, which is a vocational program for people with disability that will support people to achieve their potential through working to overcome the educational and social barriers that hold them back. This new program is in partnership with Fontanelle Studios and will support the creation of inclusive and accessible creative environments for people with a disability in the Council area. Funding was only provided for the materials this year to due previous funding being provided in 2017

Junction Community Centre was approved $7,500 to support Sewing: from Ottoway to the NPY lands. The 12 month weekly sewing classes will consist of migrant/refugee women who will come together to socialise and be provided with free fabric (donated by Lutheran Community Care) and machines to do mending/ alterations/ dressmaking plus develop skills through the tuition of an experienced teacher. The participants will make items for themselves, their families and also for the families of the NPY lands, of which will then be delivered by Lutheran Community Care.

Junction Community Centre were approved $6,466 to establish a multicultural community choir to bring isolated people together and encourage cross cultural relationships.

Indian Australian Association of South Australia was approved $7,500 to support the IAASA Centre English Classes for all levels. The recently announced more stringent measures for levels of English proficiency requirements are necessitating more support in this area for the emerging community.

Multicultural Communities Council of SA was approved $7,500 to support the Health and Wellbeing project for isolated CALD Mothers. MCCSA will bring isolated mothers from different groups of CALD communities together to engage in fitness and wellbeing activities. Creche was provided to support participation and used to encourage group self-management. The program will deliver fitness classes and offer information sessions tailored to address the needs of young mothers. To information sessions in areas of financial management, legal/migration, domestic violence, Centrelink, Medicare, breastfeeding, suicide prevention and Council services.

AJZ Productions was approved $7,500 to support True North Pathways, which is a program that will provide people up to 23 years with a mentor youth leadership program within the arts sector.

Western Adelaide Domestic Violence Service was approved $7,460 to support the Healing and Wellbeing Programs for Women. These programs will facilitate a holistic healing and wellbeing program for women who have lived with domestic and aboriginal family violence. There will be two programs that will provide activities and opportunities to build skills and strategies that promote personal and emotional safety and increase community wellbeing.

The Grove Uniting Church was approved $7,200 to support an after school Art and Craft Group. Arts and Craft activities will be provided in a safe space for homework will be provided for disadvantaged children in the area (Approximately 60 children).

Adelaide International Youth Film Festival was approved $5,000 to support the Reel Big Filmz project. Reel Big Filmz is a community outreach filmmaking program that enables young people to participate in creative, fun, engaging and skills building workshops based on film, media and visual storytelling, using their own ideas.

Australian Refugee Association was approved $3,000 to support the Refugee Education Scholarship Project. The Australian Refugee Association (ARA) will provide educational scholarships for clients from refugee backgrounds who reside in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Funding will contribute towards the costs of course fees, uniforms, text books or other study related equipment and will be capped at $100 per scholarship recipient.

Ghana Association Of South Australia was approved $7,150 to support the Cultural Drumming & Dancing Project, which is a diverse community cultural and social cohesion program - through language, drumming, dancing and cooking.

The Opportunity Games was approved $5,000 to hold a fun and interactive sports day for people with mental health challenges who live in Supported Residential Facilities.

The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (SA) was approved $2,430 to support the community garden - Acknowledging Kaurna Land. Support for stage two of the community garden, which has had significant interest from the community in stage one and aims to support the ongoing commitment to building meaningful relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people.

SA Parkour Association was approved $1,050 to support Introduction to Parkour Experience. Parkour is an engaging training discipline that has very little barrier to entry. Participants don't need any equipment, or even shoes. Therefore engaging people with Parkour can equip them with both the ability and motivation to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands, and without any financial or travel barriers.

CK Community Hub (previously known as Cottage Kitchen) were approved $3,595 to deliver a creative art project that will engage people experiencing mental health challenges in photography and watercolour painting workshops with exhibitions to be held during SALA in August 2019.

Second Chances SA were approved $7,500 to support children of prisoners in the PAE region to attend camps where young people are mentored and engaged in activities which build their sense of positive value, with the aim of diverting them from entering the juvenile justice system.

Caribbean Association of South Australia were approved $6,259 to deliver an after school music program from the Parks Library to engage disadvantaged and disengaged young people.

South Australian Wheelchair Basketball Association were approved $7,500 to support their Junior National Wheelchair Basketball Team Development Project.

Wandana Community Centre were approved $4,900 to support their Black is a Rainbow Colour Project, creating a safer space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12-17 years who are questioning or identify as LGBTQIA+.

Batyr were approved $7,500 to support their Shaping Port Adelaide's Mentally Healthy Future Project. The program will reach 300+ young people with professionally facilitated interactive workshops harnessing the stories of ‘lived-experience’ young speakers and teaching five constructive behaviours - Look Out, Get Talking, Listen Up, Reach Out and Take Charge.

Filipinos IConnect SA Inc were approved $7,500 to support their iConnect One Stop Hub to establish a place for people from CALD backgrounds in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield to access activities fostering mental and emotional wellbeing, values formation, environmental awareness, and a sense of belonging in the community.

Lolly Jar Circus Inc. were approved $3,200 to support their Multicultural Social Circus Classes that will include immigrant children and young people, to enable them to socialise and form friendships in a fun, non-threatening way.

Multicultural Communities Council of SA were approved $7,500 to support their Strengthening Capacities of Young CALD Volunteers through mentoring, leadership and governance training by removing barriers and providing an opportunity to train with peers in a fun and safe environment.

North Haven Surf Life Saving Club Inc were approved $3,422 to support their Seniors First Aid Courses at North Haven Surf Life Saving Club. This is an education program for older people designed to encourage long term social and community connections through activities focused on first aid.

Royal Life Saving Society Aust South Australia Branch Inc were approved $7,500 to support their Water Safety Education for CALD Port Adelaide Enfield residents.
