Largs Stormwater Outlet

As part of our Lefevre Peninsula Stormwater Management Plan we will soon be commencing major stormwater works in Largs North. This will see the construction of new underground drainage and outlet pipes which will remove water from nearby streets to stop flooding in low-lying areas. The system will capture and retain pollutants from the stormwater system to minimise the impact of stormwater runoff before it is discharged into the coastal dune system and ocean.
From 28 July until end of August 2020 we will be working on the intersection of Lady Gowrie Drv and Magarey St, then will be away from intersection working on local streets. The project is complex and challenging due to the nature and magnitude of works including deep excavation, sandy soil conditions, traffic management and the vicinity of gas, water, sewer, Telstra and NBN infrastructure which requires adjustments. We expect works to be completed by the end of the year.
This project is one aspect of the Lefevre Peninsula Stormwater Management Plan which began in 2016. The plan highlighted the need to provide a new dune outlet in this location to reduce the depth and frequency of flooding in the local vicinity. Community consultation was undertaken as a part of the establishment of this plan and it was ultimately endorsed by Council, the Stormwater Management Authority and Department for Environment and Water in 2018.
Nearby residents have been notified but if you have any questions or would like more information call 8405 6600.
