Library members who wish to use the Makerspace can be inducted into the new Makerspace Community. This means that you will be able to ‘borrow’ access to the Makerspace whenever Parks Library is open, provided that no scheduled programs are taking place.

You will be required to sign a new Code of Conduct. This means that you will be able to access the Makerspace to work on your own projects when it suits you, without supervision. Come tinker and chat with fellow makers, and help to build this new Makerspace Community.

Facilitated programs, workshops and Maker’s Advisory will still be held regularly, with bookings required.

STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills are brought together under the STEM acronym and can also include Arts (STEAM) as creativity is important to innovation and design.

STEM Education is a multidisciplinary approach of hands-on learning to all elements of the field. It uses enquiry learning, problem-solving, self-directed learning and teamwork, where theory and practical skills are brought together with critical thinking.

The STEM Team provides a range of authentic STEM learning opportunities for people from all walks of life and backgrounds from children through to adults. This includes regular programs, fun holiday programs, special interest workshops, outreach, and collaborative workshops. If we are not covering something let us know.

The STEM Team also work in collaboration with Schools, Citizen Science Groups and Special Interest Groups (SIG) to bring skills and experience of individuals and community groups into our libraries. Facilitating likeminded people to get together to develop authentic grassroots workshops, events and collaborations.

IoT Workshops

IoT stands for the Internet of Things. We are all aware of computers, phones and video streaming services. But there is a growing number of things that are also connected to the internet. Made possible by low-cost microcomputers we are now able to control or monitor just about anything, anywhere at any-time.   IoT is becoming an everyday part of our lives whether we want it or not. It will be in our homes, workplaces, public spaces, streets, skies and waterways.
