| Northern Sport and Recreation Network The Northern Sport and Recreation Network is a joint initiative between five councils: Port Adelaide Enfield, Tea Tree Gully, Playford, Salisbury and Charles Sturt. The Network has been running for over 3 years and has worked collaboratively to provide support to clubs, developing and delivering several workshops and webinars in sport and recreation. The Northern Sport and Recreation Network was the winner of the Local Government Professionals SA Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration in 2021 and is a finalist for the 2021 LG Professionals Australia Awards. The Victorian-based Sports Community provides free and membership-based resources, tips, training and webinars in all aspects of club management.
This Victorian Government resource provides information and templates in all aspects of club management.
Sport Integrity Australia was established in 2020 to combine the functions of the Australian Sports Doping Authority, the National Integrity of Sport Unit and the integrity programs of the Australian Sports Doping Authority, the National Integrity of Sport Unit and the integrity programs of Sport Australia to safeguard the integrity of sport. Areas covered are:
- Prohibited substances and methods in sport
- Abuse of children and others in sport
- Manipulation of sporting competitions
- Protection of sporting organisations and individuals from bullying, intimidation, discrimination or harassment.
Play by the Rules provides information, resources, tools and free online training (now hosted by Sport Integrity Australia) to increase the capacity and capability of administrators, coaches, officials, players, parents and spectators to prevent and deal with discrimination, harassment, child safety, inclusion and integrity issues in sport.
Good Sports provides tools, resources and accreditation for clubs around alcohol management, smoking regulations, mental health, illegal drugs, safe transport and helping to create a safe, welcoming, family-friendly environment.
Many grants are available to assist grass roots sporting clubs, open at different times of the year and through a variety of agencies and organisations.
Play it On is a social enterprise that provides funding to assist children from financially challenged families participate in their chosen sport. Play it On collects pre-used sports gear, rejuvenates it and sells it online. The profits raised provide a subsidy for sporting club fees of eligible children. Ways you can assist or benefit are detailed on their website.
The South Australian Government, through the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing has developed the “Club of the Future” guide that will support clubs to explore innovative ways to deliver quality experiences, share resources, services and facilities, increase affordability and promote contemporary approaches to volunteering.
With the recent impacts of COVID-19, it has highlighted a need for clubs to think outside the box and diversify their thinking to establish alternative ways to generate revenue. Richard Mellon, former Manager Industry Support with the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, produced a checklist for club committees to consider different strategies and ideas on what your club could consider to diversify revenue streams to help your club improve financial sustainability and ensure long-term success!
Welcoming Clubs is Welcoming Australia’s overarching initiative for programs that embrace the power of sport and recreation as a vehicle for inclusion, opportunity and belonging for all members of the community.
