Coastal Region

Eight kilometres of clean sands ... with sheltered playgrounds, bbq amenities and green open spaces from Semaphore to North Haven. Semaphore’s white sands, family-friendly shallows and colourful foreshore still make for a classic Adelaide beachside escape.

Semaphore has plenty of big grassy areas for picnics and BBQ’s, with a choice of playgrounds for all ages and a skate park to keep the kids busy. You can play mini-golf, slither down the water slide, ride on the vintage carousel or ferris wheel, buy ice creams and fish and chips from a beachside kiosk, cycle on the bike track, and ride on the steam train that puffs 2km along the shoreline. During Summer, the Semaphore Carnival offers a true seaside carnival experience with rides, games and activities.

Semaphore Rd is one of Adelaide’s widest boulevards, stretching down to the jetty and sea.Funky boutiques have opened their doors alongside famous ‘old salt’ pubs, and contemporary cafes are serving seasonal produce whilst the night air is filled with the delicious aroma of fish ‘n’ chips. There are over 80 stores in the Semaphore area, creating one of the most colourful shopping experiences in SA! Start at the foreshore and work your way east along the lines of verandahs and bluestone buildings that make up surprising Semaphore Road. Check out the edgy mix of old, alternative and new – the street where ‘boutique’ sits beside ‘bargain’, ‘chic’ beside ‘cheeky’, and ‘contemporary vintage’ beside shops that have been serving the locals for decades.

Cycle or stroll along the Coast Park from Semaphore to Largs where you will discover the beautiful Largs Pier Hotel and Jetty Road. Travelling further north will bring you to the North Haven Marina where you can dine alfresco style while dolphin spotting. A number of guided cruise and tour companies provide the opportunity to take to the seas in style and enjoy the views of this scenic area.
