Environment

It is now widely accepted that protection of the environment is crucial for the health, economic, and social well being of future generations.  We are committed to implementing strategies for raising awareness, facilitating community-based projects, implementing environmental programs, and working with other levels of government to assist in the protection and enhancement of the City's environment, and quality of life.

We undertake strategic planning in consultation with the residential and business community to improve and protect the area's natural and built environment, and the natural resources on which we all depend. Council's strategic planning recognises the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD), which are incorporated into a wide range of policies and programs.

We are an active member of the SA Environmental Sustainability Network, which is a forum for Local Government practitioners to share information and ideas regarding environmental management and sustainable development.

Living Environment Video Series

Through our Living Environment program, we are accelerating our response to climate change and environmental sustainability priorities. This includes supporting businesses and community action through the Greening Our City initiative, the Green Business Incentive Scheme and the Community Environment Program. We will also continue to accelerate our efforts to achieve zero net emissions and work with others to ensure that the organisation and our City can adapt and be resilient to climate change. This video series highlights some of the work being done as part of this program.
