It is fantastic to see the new soccer facilities in Taperoo being used by the community. This entire development was at a total cost of $9.2 million dollars, with the City of PAE funding $8.7 million dollars for the entire project.
Its not finished yet though. On top of the soccer pitches, clubrooms and landscaping, we are working on a community park, a barbecue area, picnic areas, a loop path, a basketball court and landscaping to really make the most out of this community space.
Port Adelaide Pirates Soccer Club
have strong roots in the local area and are the longest surviving soccer club in the state, with 115 years of tradition right here in our local area.
In 2009, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield purchased this land on the site of the former Taperoo School with the goal of increasing the amount of open space in the area. In late 2012, the council decided to develop this space as a community recreation area, which would include soccer facilities for junior and senior teams.
Thank you to the State Government for its $500,000 contribution through the Office of Recreation and Sport, and thank you to the club for its efforts in achieving this initial grant funding that paved the way for the project.
To bring this project together, council staff worked with
Studio Nine Architects
who developed the design, BluBuilt constructions, a local company based in Largs North, who built the clubrooms and surrounding area,
who did landscape design, and Outside Ideas who brought the landscaping construction to life.
Soccer is growing, the club is growing, and this amazing new home ground will help secure the prosperity of this fantastic local club long into the future.
