Construction of a memorial to Australian soldiers is now complete at the Gilles Plains and Hampstead RSL in Manningham, ready for use at this year's ANZAC dawn service.
The shelter respectfully acknowledges the Australia Army Slouch Hat with the ‘Rising Sun’ badge and the puggaree on the hat with the seven folds of the puggaree reflected in the design of the shelter, while blending into the surrounding environment and existing building. The shelter, with surrounding landscaping, sits in front of a memorial to military personnel and an Australian flag pole which flies our flag proudly at the rear.
The shelter, which will be lit at night, is intended to be used for ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day memorials and is open to the public to use every other day of the year.
This project was funded by the Government of South Australia, with the design and construction project managed by the City of PAE.
