The aim of the Dale Street Revitalisation was to create a vibrant, active, safe street for the community and businesses by developing a strong sense of place and providing a balance between creating a safe, attractive environment whilst enhancing the heritage and character of Port Adelaide.
The project was initiated in 2012 and a consultant engaged to prepare the Dale Street Concept Report. The design team delivered investigation and analysis of a range of Dale Street's elements and functions such as safe traffic movements, car parking, pedestrian movement and environment and attractive streetscaping. Consultation was undertaken with Dale Street residents, business and the broader community. A final concept plan was endorsed by Council on 12 March 2013.
Construction was completed in 2015. The works include new footpaths, road pavement, pedestrian crossings, landscaping, lighting, street furniture and elements of public art. Council is pleased to have received many positive comments about how this project has significantly improved the look and function of Dale Street and has contributed to the ongoing improvement of the Port Adelaide Centre.
