The Port Adelaide Regional Centre is recognised as a key location and destination in the strategic plans of the Port Adelaide Enfield Council and the State Government.
The State Government’s 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide recognises the area as a higher order regional centre and focal point for significant future investment by the public and private sector.
Council places a high priority on the Port Adelaide Centre, which will be characterised by a variety of retail, tourist, commercial, and residential development. To help realise this, substantial increases in the residential and business population will be required.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has ongoing area improvement projects that it continues to deliver, such as the recent upgrade of Dale Street. Over the last few years, Council has also partnered with Renewal SA (the State Government’s development agency) to deliver a range of building upgrades, infrastructure improvements, place-making projects and events.
Completed and current projects include:
The OurPort project has proven to be a significant catalyst for building confidence and attracting new investment to the centre, including SA Government Office Accommodation on Nile Street, Starfish Dock No. 1 Development, and Cedar Woods' redevelopment of the North West and Fletcher’s Slip precincts of Port Adelaide’s inner harbour.
Announcements of major developments projects such as Port Canal Shopping Centre Redevelopment and Port Dock Railway Station will also bring economic development and employment opportunities to the historic centre.
