Hart St Stormwater Pump Station

The Hart Street stormwater pump station is located on the western side of the Port River on Causeway Road, Ethelton adjacent the Jervois Bridge.

The drainage catchment is a low lying area and includes the suburbs of Ethelton, and parts of Glanville, Exeter, Semaphore and Semaphore South.

The original pump station was constructed in the mid 1960’s.

A Hydrological Study undertaken in 2000 and Stormwater Master Plan completed in 2003 investigated a number of options and identified the preferred scheme to reduce the instances of flooding within the catchment as:

  • Upgrade the existing pump station
  • Construct a new main drain in Hart Street
  • Upgrade a number of lateral drains

Staged construction works commenced in 2004 with joint funding from Council and the State’ Government’s Stormwater Management Authority.

The new main drain along Hart Street, a new rising main under Causeway Road and the adjacent railway line to the Port River, a new pump pit, pumps, gross pollutant trap, and a new building to house the control equipment and backup generator have been completed. Upgrade works for the lateral drains will continue for several more years.
