The City of PAE has teamed up with Adbri Limited to make our footpaths more sustainable, while simultaneously recycling materials into new, low-carbon products.
A brand new, locally created concrete mix was laid for the first time on Thursday, to be trialled in footpath construction in Bedford Street, Gillman.
These new sustainable footpaths feature Adbri’s Futurecrete® Ultra. This is a new low-carbon concrete range that provides the strength and durability of conventional concrete, but with the benefit of lowering the embodied carbon. It also substitutes over 40% of the cement content with industrial byproducts to reduce our carbon footprint even more.
The trial also features Adbri EvoCem™ low carbon cement, which is a new type of cement in Australia provided by Adbri and is a key ingredient in lowering carbon in concrete even more.
The concrete mix is sourced using 50% recycled aggregates from a local material recovery facility in Dry Creek, supporting our local circular economy.
All of the above means that we are reducing carbon emissions by over 60% per cubic metre, when compared to conventional concrete with no recycled materials or cement replacements.
Our collaboration with Adbri is just one of the things we are doing around the city to make PAE a more environmentally friendly and sustainable place to live. We’re using smarter materials that reduce our environment impacts, whilst not compromising on quality.
We will let you know how the trial goes.
