Get Shady

Trees help make our neighbourhoods greener, cooler and more enjoyable places to live. They provide shade, help manage stormwater, create habitat for local wildlife and improve the air we breathe.

Since 2022 our Get Shady program has provided 1,657 trees to our residents and businesses to plant on their property. We’re doing this to encourage residents, businesses, schools, and strata groups to plant more trees on their properties to help green our city and reach our Tree Canopy Target (increase of 35% by 2050).

Looking to plant a tree in your yard?  There are two ways we can help you make it happen. See your options below.

Property owners can purchase their own tree, plant it in their yard and then apply for up to $100 rebate. Terms and conditions apply. The Get Shady tree rebate is open until Sunday 13 June 2027 with reimbursements available for trees purchased after 1 July 2026.

Please note: Residents cannot receive a rebate for the same property in consecutive years. If you received a rebate in 2025–26, you are not eligible to apply again this year.

You can read more about the rebate, and program FAQs below.

Receive a free tree through Council’s Get Shady Tree Giveaway Event to be held in June 2027. For more information see further down the page, below the FAQ’s.
