Justice of the Peace

You can get free Justice of the Peace (JP) services at the City of PAE. Find out when JPs are available at our libraries and Civic Centre.

What does a JP do?

The main role of a Justice of the Peace (JP) is to witness documents that are used for official or legal purposes, such as:

  • Attesting or witnessing the execution of a document
  • Taking an affidavit for use in court
  • Taking a statutory declaration
  • Certifying a true copy of an original document
  • Witnessing the signing of an Advanced Care Directive

Whenever possible your meeting with a JP will be held in a semi-private area or in a private room.

Our free JP services

We offer free JP services for residents of the City of PAE. They’re located at our libraries in Enfield, Greenacres, Parks, Port Adelaide, and Semaphore as well as at our Civic Centre in Port Adelaide. Please make sure you do any photocopying before meeting with the JP. You can use our photocopying services at our libraries.

There’s no need to book an appointment for our free JP services. Simply call us on 8405 6600 to confirm a JP is available and then drop in to see a JP during the scheduled times.
