Take a deep breath of fresh sea air and get ready to experience South Australia’s maritime heartland. Start a trip to the Port at the Visitor Information Centre, affectionately known as the VIC, and get all the information you need to make the most from your experience

The Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre (the VIC) is in an 1860 heritage-listed building which originally housed the customs, courts, police station and jail cells.

There are several beautifully presented exhibition rooms in the VIC, with an Art Gallery that features a changing exhibition of works by local artists each month. The VIC also has an extensive selection of brochures and maps to assist travellers, and the original jail cells are open for visitors to explore.

The centre offers free bike hire, including kids' bikes, providing the option for travellers to enjoy cycling around the Port’s State Heritage Area, the Waterfront Loop Path and the nearby Coast Park. Make sure to step into the VIC's Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary Display Room to discover more about the fascinating world of the area’s wild dolphins and their natural environment, which includes the Port River.

The VIC's friendly team can assist you to make the most of your visit to the Port and its surrounds by providing you with the latest attractions and event information.

Art gallery information – for artists

The VIC runs a gallery space to showcase works by local artists, craftspeople and designers. Booking requests for hire of the art gallery are subject to a selection process, with preference given to artists who live in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield or whose art has some connection to the City of PAE. If you would like to apply to show your art in the VIC, please complete the Visitor Information Centre Gallery booking form.

The Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre (VIC) runs a free bike hire program which makes it quick and easy to grab a bike and go for a ride. Cycle around the Port’s State Heritage Area and the Waterfront Loop Path.

The VIC is located at 66 Commercial Road, Port Adelaide and the opening hours are:

Open 7 Days from 10am to 5pm (closed Christmas Day)

To hire a bike, you will need to bring valid photo ID with you (driver’s licence, passport, Proof of Age, Identity card). We hold onto your ID until the bike is returned.
