The newly upgraded Futsal Park at Blair Athol Reserve was officially opened last Friday, marking the completion of a revitalisation project that breathes new life into this much-loved community sports facility. The redevelopment includes the resurfacing of three outdoor futsal and netball courts, alongside the transformation of a previously underused section into a brand-new Sangi Rag pitch.
The refurbishment meets meet the growing demand for small-sided football in the area, providing local clubs, schools, and residents with an exceptional space to enjoy and engage in the sport.
In addition to the physical upgrades, the City of PAE will continue our successful collaboration with local organisation One Culture to offer inclusive community programs at Futsal Park. One Culture will lead futsal programs throughout the year, with a special focus on engaging youth from diverse backgrounds. These programs will offer a supportive and welcoming environment where players of all abilities can hone their skills, build leadership, and foster positive social connections.
Blair Athol is also home to one of Adelaide’s largest Afghan communities, so as well as the Futsal Park upgrade, the new Sangi-Rag next door pitch reflects the community’s cultural makeup and provides a new recreational opportunity for the area. This was created in consultation with the Adelaide Hazara Sports and Community Club, and we will continue working with them to bring the game to a broader demographic.
The redevelopment of Blair Athol Reserve underscores the Council’s commitment to creating spaces that promote health, wellbeing, and community connection. We believe sport and recreation plays a pivotal role in enhancing wellbeing while bringing people together, and these new facilities are a testament to that vision.
