Recently we installed a new stormwater pump station in Osborne, as we continue working to increase the capacity of the stormwater system right around PAE. This new pump increases flow by over 10 times and can move 400 litres of water per second (that's 1067 cans of soft drink!).
The Peninsula is a mix of coastal sand dunes and low, flat land. This makes it hard to drain stormwater in some areas. Some low-lying spots, including this location on the corner of Railway Terrace and Moldavia Walk, can’t use regular drainage systems that rely on gravity, so they need pumps to stop water from building up during heavy rainfall.
As a long-term solution to flooding problems in the area, this new pump station will work with the larger capacity underground pipes that were recently installed under roads throughout the Peninsula, helping the stormwater system hold and process more water. This will reduce flooding risks and keep water from pooling on streets and overflowing into properties.
