BuildTogether project announced

Published 3rd November 2026
Working together to deliver better community infrastructure

We’re partnering with the Cities of Marion and Charles Sturt, and South Australian construction company Kennett through a new approach to planning and delivering community infrastructure.

The BuildTogether alliance will coordinate an estimated $250 million combined pipeline of planned capital works over the next three years, including sporting, recreation and community facilities.

The $250 million represents the estimated combined pipeline of planned works across our council, Marion and Charles Sturt. It is not a new funding commitment, and we will continue to approve and fund our own projects, undertake required community engagement and maintain our existing governance and accountability requirements.

By working together and giving Kennett greater visibility of upcoming projects, we aim to support earlier planning of resources, subcontractors and construction schedules, helping to reduce uncertainty, avoidable delays and exposure to cost overruns.

For our community, work will commence on the design of the Port Reserve and Rushworth Reserve Clubroom developments.

Mayor Claire Boan said the partnership was another way we could look for better ways to deliver for our community.

“We have a responsibility to make thoughtful decisions about how we invest community money and to keep looking for better ways to deliver for our residents.

“Working collaboratively with other councils gives us another opportunity to do that, and ultimately the success of this approach will be seen in the outcomes we deliver for our communities.”

The alliance follows the Build Big. Bid Smart. initiative, which challenged the construction industry to propose smarter ways of delivering major infrastructure. Kennett was engaged following a rigorous 12-month procurement process.

Established in Adelaide in 1914, Kennett is a fourth-generation South Australian construction company employing more than 100 people across its local operations and associated workforce. Kennett also works with South Australian suppliers, subcontractors and construction professionals.

Work through the alliance is already beginning, with Kennett preparing to undertake site works at Marion’s new tennis courts at Sturt Road, while mobilisation at Charles Sturt’s St Clair Community Facility is expected in February 2027.
