- Prevent cats from roaming by keeping them indoors or using a secure outdoor enclosure – this also protects our wildlife
- Keep dogs on leads in public areas, especially when wildlife is present
- Prevent your dog from scavenging or touching dead birds and wildlife
- Clean shoes thoroughly after walking your dog in a wildlife area
- Ensure food and water is out of reach of wild birds
- Always provide access to fresh and clean water
- Don’t allow pets to use water bowls that may also be accessed by birds
Taking these precautions can significantly reduce the risk to your cats and dogs. More information about symptoms of H5 bird flu in mammals, and tips for protecting birds and other pets is available online at: https://www.birdflu.sa.gov.au/pets
