Semaphore Foreshore redevelopment update

Published 27th May 2026
Construction on the Semaphore Foreshore redevelopment is now planned for February 2027, with timing designed to minimise disruption during peak periods

Semaphore is one of Adelaide’s most iconic coastal destinations. A place known for its beach, jetty, open lawns, carousel, steam train, playground, and vibrant events calendar. It’s a place filled with memories for many, and through community input, a shared vision has been shaped for its future.

That vision is to create a world-class foreshore that celebrates Semaphore’s heritage while embracing the future. A space that is vibrant, accessible, and designed for generations to come.

In late 2024, Council endorsed the Semaphore Foreshore Master Plan and progressed into the detailed design phase. Since then, work has been underway to ensure the project can be delivered in a way that balances quality outcomes while minimising disruption to the community.

As part of early planning for construction, we have been working closely with industry partners to test how the project can be delivered efficiently, safely, and with the least possible impact.

As a result of this work, construction is now planned to begin in February 2027. This timing has been carefully chosen to:

  • reduce disruption during the foreshore’s busiest periods, including peak summer and major events
  • better align with construction requirements and staging
  • support a smoother, more efficient delivery of the project overall

We are currently in the process of finalising the appointment of a contractor to deliver the redevelopment. Once a contractor is confirmed, more detailed information will be available, including construction staging, timing of works in specific areas, access, and any temporary changes to the foreshore.

We recognise how important this information is for businesses, local residents, event organisers, and the wider community, and we are committed to providing updates as soon as more detail is available. We will also work directly with stakeholders to support planning and minimise disruption wherever possible.

This is a significant project for PAE, and we are committed to keeping the community informed at every stage. Follow this project on Participate PAE to receive updates as more information becomes available.
