Historic Reserve Information
Jack Watkins (born in 1935) was an advocate for safe & clean working and living environments after experiencing unsanitary conditions and substandard housing growing up in Manchester, England. In 1988, after migrating to South Australia, he was appointed as Asbestos and Toxic Waste Liaison Officer at the United Trades and Labor Council where he fought to raise awareness and improve legislation relating to asbestos. With residents, Jack fought for cleanup of this site and converted it into a public park that today stands as a tribute to workers who died from asbestos related diseases.
