Yitpi Yartapuultiku Update

Published 19th March 2025
A premier destination for community connection, education, business and tourism, Yitpi Yartapuultiku is nearing completion in the centre of Port Adelaide.

Yitpi will be a place for community outreach programs, support services and a culturally safe place for all community to come together and support each other, generating employment opportunities and supporting local businesses through increased tourism and event activity.

This transformative new facility and reserve along the Port River will include state-of-the-art facilities including function and event spaces including a large auditorium accommodating up to 240 guests for conferences, festivals, performances and corporate events. The space will also feature flexible meeting and exhibition spaces, a commercial kitchen, and a large outdoor auditorium in front of the Port River for performances and events, making it ideal for businesses, organisations, and event planners looking for a unique and inspiring venue.

Beyond its appeal as an event space, Yitpi Yartapuultiku is set to become a significant tourism drawcard, attracting visitors eager to immerse themselves in Aboriginal culture in a stunning natural environment. The Cultural Centre will showcase contemporary and traditional Aboriginal art, host guided cultural tours and provide opportunities to learn about Country and the connection between land, animals, and the seasons. Visitors will experience Kaurna culture as well as the wider South Australian Aboriginal history and heritage.

Multiple nature-based play areas feature a rock scramble, timber balance logs, and interactive sand and water play, and sculptural art dotted around the site will add even more to see and do.

The previously underutilised outdoor space is fast becoming a thriving public parkland with walking paths, quiet spaces, fishing spots, and the chance to spot dolphins from elevated viewing areas. The restoration of the shoreline habitat is already creating a unique living laboratory, fostering sustainability and environmental education while adding to the site's appeal as a must-visit destination. Birdwatchers will delight in seeing both local and migratory species that are already returning to the site.

When complete, Yitpi Yartapuultiku will be more than just a community space - it will be a place where business, culture and tourism intersect, creating opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange and environmental stewardship.
