Christmas Trail

Join Crispy Shawn the Christmas Prawn and all his friends for the 2025 PAE Christmas Trail.

This year you can step into a world of colour, character and cracking good jokes to celebrate the silly season with a playful, interactive, augmented reality trail.

Think technology like Pokémon Go but the creativity and imagination of artist Luku Kuku creating characters and stories especially for us in PAE!

How It Works

At nine locations across PAE you’ll discover a stack of GIANT presents, visit each location from 7 December to 25 January to discover seven different characters – each one a playful nod to the unique ways we celebrate in PAE.

Each present uses Augmented Reality (AR), all you need to do is scan the QR code located on the giant presents with your apple or android phone to reveal a character, grab its special code letter and enjoy a fun and interactive laugh with your new best mate. Find all seven characters and their code letters across PAE, to spell out a code word. Once you’ve got the code word, visit your local library and let the friendly library team know the word and they’ll give you a prize to commemorate your adventure across PAE.

Whether you’re up for a one-day treasure hunt, a trek across PAE, or you visit your local site weekly, we’ll make sure all nine locations rotate through the characters, so everyone in PAE can meet the full cast of characters, discover the code word and play along.

The PAE Christmas trail is a fun way to celebrate and make memories together - begin your adventure today!

Please note lighting conditions and time of day may affect your AR experience. For best results, visit during daylight hours.

Christmas Trail FAQs

The PAE Christmas Trail is a self-guided, family-friendly adventure across nine locations in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Each stop features a festive present stack designed by local artists, an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) experience (using your smartphone) and one of seven secrete letters to collect for the Trail challenge.

The trail will go live and be launched on the same day as the City of PAE Christmas Parade, which is happening on Sunday 7 December 2025. The trail is available all through the school holidays and will end on Sunday 25 January 2026. You have seven weeks to explore and experience the unique stops.

There are nine trail stops located around the seven wards of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. Two  stops are located inside in Council facilities, and can only be accessed during operating hours. Most are located outside. The sites are listed above.

Visit each stop, scan the QR code on the gift stack for instructions on how to unlock the animation and collect your letter.

Yes, there are some locations that share the same AR experience. The reason for this is that there is only one Christmas character for each PAE ward. This means that the repeated AR experiences will unlock the same characters and their secret letter. Remember, there are a total of 7 secret letters required to unscramble the secret word.

The presents that have the same AR experience are:

  • Present 5: Largs Playground and Present 6: Semaphore Road
  • Present 7: The Lights Community Centre and Present 8: Harry Wierda Reserve
  • Yes! The Trail is free and open to everyone. No bookings required.

Collect the 7 secret letter clues from Crispy Shawn’s friends around PAE, unscramble the code word then take your answer to your nearest PAE Library or the Visitor Information Centre,

You’ll be able to decorate your own Crispy Shawn, the Christmas Prawn to take home as a Christmas tree ornament or charm!

When out on the trail, you'll need a charged smartphone with mobile data. Wear comfortable shoes, sun protection, and pack your sense of adventure!

Access to most sites is across flat ground. You may need to cross grassed areas. Contact us for specific accessibility or parking questions.

If you can only visit one location, don’t worry! Crispy Shawn and his cheery cavalcade of festive friends will be rotating through each site each week over the Trail’s duration so you can meet them all over the holiday period at your closest location.

The trail stops are  located in diverse settings around PAE. Look out for hopscotch details at the Lights Community and Sports Centre, Klemzig Recreation Reserve, Parks Library, Civic Centre and Enfield Community Centre, for some good old fashioned fun!

While out and about on the trail, you can borrow a book, sign up for a fitness class, buy a coffee or browse the local shops for gifts and treasures. Several of the locations have playground equipment or fitness stations nearby.

Please pay attention to your surroundings while using the Augmented Reality features. Most of the locations are situated well back from the roads, however take special care on Semaphore Road, where the stack is in a high-traffic area.

Please do not climb onto or scale the present stacks, even for photos. Keep Crispy, and yourself, safe this festive season.
