Emergencies are an inherent part of the Australian environment. While we cannot prevent events such as floods, storms, and earthquakes, we can all take action to minimise the risks they pose to our community.
The Community Emergency Management Plan (CEMP)
The purpose of the CEMP is to collectively develop skills which provide our community with:
- Knowledge of the emergency risks that exist in the local area
- Information to support the role that each member of the community can have in an emergency
- A platform to connect with each other and council before, during and after an emergency
- The ability to support each to become resilient in an emergency event or disaster
Being prepared for an emergency may reduce the negative consequences of an emergency event.

Background
It is part of Australia’s history that disasters have had a significant and sometimes lasting impact on individuals, communities and the natural and built environments in which we live and work. While such events often cannot be prevented, State and Local Governments, businesses, Communities and individuals have a clear duty to plan and prepare extensively, so that the response and recovery is optimal.
The safety and wellbeing of residents is a priority for the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the CEMP focuses on providing information relating to emergency management in order to increase the community awareness, understanding and resilience in the event of an emergency incident.
Development of CEMP
The CEMP was and will be continued to be developed through collaboration with the community and stakeholders to the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

Monitoring:
The CEMP support in the development of community resilience is an ongoing partnership between community and council. As an ongoing practice throughout the life of the CEMP the community knowledge of the emergency incidents and disasters as well as the level of resilience will be measured through community engagement with stakeholders and State Government, practical application by monitoring the skills capability of the community, and through encouraging opportunities to collaboratively grow knowledge and skills.
