It is now widely accepted that protection of the environment is crucial for the health, economic, and social well being of future generations.  We are committed to implementing strategies for raising awareness, facilitating community-based projects, implementing environmental programs, and working with other levels of government to assist in the protection and enhancement of the City's environment, and quality of life.

We undertake strategic planning in consultation with the residential and business community to improve and protect the area's natural and built environment, and the natural resources on which we all depend. Council's strategic planning recognises the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD), which are incorporated into a wide range of policies and programs.

Council is an active member of the SA Environmental Sustainability Network, which is a forum for Local Government practitioners to share information and ideas regarding environmental management and sustainable development.
