Citizenship

Becoming an Australian citizen means that you are making an ongoing commitment to Australia and our shared values. It is also the beginning of your formal membership of the Australian community.

All applications for Australian Citizenship are processed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Any enquiries in relation to the 'application' for Citizenship should be directed to the Department of Home Affairs in the first instance by contacting the Australian Citizenship Line on 131 880 or by logging onto their website.

I have received my approval - how do I attend a Ceremony?

Invitations are sent out by the Department of Home Affairs to eligible candidates approx. four weeks prior to the ceremony.

New citizens are requested to arrive 30 minutes prior to the ceremony to allow for registration and must bring photo identification with them. Citizens are asked to limit the number of guests attending due to limited capacity at our venues.

Ceremony Dates

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield hold Citizenship Ceremonies every 2 - 3 months and liaise with the Department of Home Affairs when there is a sufficient number of candidates to conduct a ceremony. Council then determines a suitable date and invites Members of Parliament and Elected Members to attend. The Department of Home Affairs issues invitations to eligible candidates.

The ceremonies are conducted by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor, Claire Boan.

2024 ceremony dates

  • 24 January 2024 – Klemzig Community Hall
  • 2 April 2024 - City of Port Adelaide Enfield Town Hall
  • 13 June 2024 - City of Port Adelaide Enfield Town Hall
  • 17 September 2024 - Harts Mill
  • 3 December 2024 - City of Port Adelaide Enfield Town Hall
