Media Production

We encourage commercial media producers and production companies to use our reserves and streets as filming locations. Commercial media productions may include:

  • Photography
  • Short film
  • Documentary
  • TV Program or series
  • TV advertisement

And can be:

  • Low impact – A production involving less than four people, requiring minimal infrastructure which does not require exclusive use of the public space.
  • Medium impact – A production that has more than four people involved in the media production which requires exclusive use of the public space, traffic management and/or the installation of temporary parking controls.
  • High impact – Major media productions that require a large number of production crew and cast members, using a large amount of filming equipment, with a large exclusions zones, road closures and traffic management that needs to be in place for consecutive days

Costs

A media production permit fee of $250 per day is charged. Some productions will also be eligible to pay a bond of $550 per production. A fee waiver may be applicable if the media production is being completed by students or a not-for-profit organisation, the production budget is less than $10,000 or explicitly intended to promote our region, locations,  businesses and cultural offerings, without significant impost.

Notification to impacted businesses and residents

You will be required to inform impacted businesses and residents via written notification when one or more of the following occurs as a result of the media production:

  • The availability of on street parking is impacted by the media production.
  • The media production exclusion zone results in a road closure
  • Access to businesses or residents’ premises are restricted due to the media production.

The notification will need to include:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • Description of filming activity
  • Contain a map showing the site set up and/or traffic management plan
  • Contact details of permit holder

An application can be made online or in person.

You may need to submit the following documents as part of your application:

  • A Certificate of Currency of your Public Liability Insurance with a minimum cover of $20 million, noting City of Port Adelaide Enfield as an interested party.
  • A site map showing the setup of any equipment/infrastructure for each location, and traffic management plans if applicable.
  • A run sheet if filming in multiple locations and/or over multiple days
  • A copy of stakeholder notification letter to impacted stakeholders (if applicable)

If the media production includes the operation of a drone the following will be required to be submitted with the application:

  • Civil Aviation Safety Authority approval
  • Pilot details
  • Pilot certificates
  • Flight maps (including location of spotters, etc.)

Your media production permit application will take fourteen working days to process.
